Urban Road Passive Sampler (URPS) Range
What it is:
A passive, in-sump stormwater sampler that captures an early-event (“first flush”) stormwater sample and retains floatables (e.g., hydrocarbons) and sediment for later analysis — with no power, pumps, or permanent installation.
Problem it solves:
▪ Early-event (‘first flush’) sampling where it matters. 10-25mm portion
▪ Industrial/commercial catchments where intermittent discharges are suspected or disputed.
▪ Screening stormwater quality during rainfall events (baseline checks and hotspots).
▪ Incident response and source-tracing investigations.
▪ Sites where confined space risk, traffic, or timing makes “right place/right time” sampling difficult.
▪ Trial deployments before committing to more complex monitoring.
Reliable and consistent early-event sampling when timing, access, distance, or safety makes grab sampling impractical or scalable — whilst supporting defensible evidence gathering. Investigations where contaminants discharges are suspected or baseline catchment data needs to be collected.
Where it fits / where it shines:
▪ Early-event (‘first flush’) sampling where it matters. 10-25mm portion
▪ Industrial/commercial catchments where intermittent discharges are suspected or disputed.
▪ Screening stormwater quality during rainfall events (baseline checks and hotspots).
▪ Incident response and source-tracing investigations.
▪ Sites where confined space risk, traffic, or timing makes “right place/right time” sampling difficult.
▪ Trial deployments before committing to more complex monitoring.
Key benefits:
▪ Captures an early-event sample without needing staff on-site at the critical moment.
▪ Retains floatables and allows sediment to settle for clearer interpretation.
▪ Enables repeatable deployment across multiple sites with consistent set-up.
▪ Reduces mobilisation effort and improves practicality for real-world field work.
Key features:
▪ Passive overflow/diversion capture (no moving parts; no power).
▪ Designed to preserve a floating layer and retain settled material.
▪ Modular bottle options and a simple reset/redeploy workflow.
▪ Reusable and cleanable (simple reset and redeploy)
▪ Designed for sump environments (stable placement, debris tolerance, simple retrieval and reset).

Demonstrations & use-case advice:
On-site demonstration and fit-check available in Selwyn/greater Canterbury (or remote walkthrough). We’ll also recommend a simple monitoring approach for your objective (screening vs investigation vs consent-style monitoring).
Suitability / Limitations:
Best suited to sumps where safe access for deployment and retrieval is available. Intended for event-based sampling and evidence gathering; not a replacement for continuous monitoring/autosamplers where those are required.
